Hi guys. So, although I run a health and wellness blog, I have my sad days just like everyone else. Throughout March, I found myself fall into a bit of a rut. Currently, I have a 9-5 job and live at home. As every recent college grad can probably relate to, it’s just a very abrupt change. Last year, I lived a fast-paced lifestyle in an East Village apartment in NYC, saw my friends constantly, and always had a calendar filled to the brim with exciting plans. The “real world” has hit me lately in a way that made me really long for the past, or at least for more.

I decided to be real with you because I think it is easy for everyone, not only me, to get into a funk and without even realizing it, our lives can become gradually more boring / monotonous day by day. Those two things kill happiness and creativity more than anything else. So, I took a look at my life and decided I needed to really spice it up. I needed to make plans, change aspects of my life for the better, and do something everyday that overall makes me feel happier and healthier.

I created this happiness challenge for April below. I really think doing these daily steps will make us look forward to everyday a little more. I have a PDF for you guys to download too! 5 Simple Ways to Be Kind To Yourself in 2017

Life can be a b*tch. One minute you’re up, the next you’re down. It’s a rollercoaster ride that you never really signed up for. You have two choices: enjoy the ride, or grip on for dear life hoping that the ride will end safely. Let 2017 be the year when you choose to enjoy the ride. You only live once, and life will pass you by if you don’t loosen the grip a bit. Here are five ways to be kinder to yourself in the coming year.


It’s easy to become overwhelmed by life. The bills, family obligations, and demanding career can sap our energy and increase your stress levels.  Statistic Brain reports that 76% of Americans cite money and work as the leading cause of their stress. The American Psychological Association also reports that women report the highest levels of stress

Life will always be filled with challenges. How you choose to deal with them will determine your stress levels and potential for growth. Taking life one day at a time is a challenge, but I’ve learned to get there, even when my bank account is approaching $0 and there are still bills left to be paid. Learn to choose your battles wisely.

Things have a way of working out when you stop stressing about them. Take a deep breath knowing that you’ve done all you can. Let the puzzle pieces fit together.

Focus on YOU

Much of our anxiety results from comparing ourselves to others.  We scroll through our social media feeds and see the pictures of our friends and associates accomplishing their goals and living seemingly happy lives. These images lead to us questioning our own lives. Why can’t I own a car? Why can’t I own a home? Why can’t I build a career doing what I love? Why can’t I find love? 

Why, why, why do we allow these thoughts to consume us?

The only life you have some amount of control over is yours. Focus on your journey. One day you will be able to reap the rewards you so earnestly seek. However, you have to be patient.  Things will happen for you at the right time. 

Focusing on you also means carving out some much needed “me” time. It’s so easy to try to be everything for everyone else. However, you can’t pour from an empty cup. You’re able to give more to others when you feel refreshed and your cup is full.  Don’t feel guilty. Take some time for yourself and watch how your attitude and perspective on life changes.

Choose a Focus Word

I attend many training sessions for my job. About a year ago, a particular presenter said something that has stuck with me.  She said that each year she chooses one word to focus on for her personal development. In 2015 her word was patience.  Throughout the year she focused on making a conscious decision to be more patient. By the end of the year you’ll realize that focusing on that word helps you develop skills you never even knew you had.

Stop Striving for Perfection

Perfection is impossible. We are flawed beings. Love who you are and embrace what you have to offer to the world. There will always be someone who is better than you. Instead of focusing on that fact, focus on being the best you can be. Accept that you won’t get it right all the time, but your effort is worth something.

Pay Attention to What You’re Doing to Your Body

You only have one body. Take care of it. Investing in developing a healthy lifestyle will save you a lot of long-term health expenses.  The National Sleep Foundation recommends that adults get 7 to 9 hours of sleep. Stop using the excuse that you function better at nights to work until the wee hours of the morning. You need your rest! Your brain functions at its best when it has gotten enough sleep.

Ingest the right food. You don’t have to become a vegetarian or vegan to eat healthy. Making a decision to only drink water, for instance, is a step in the right direction. Your body will thank you for making these healthy choices. 

The power to create the best version of yourself rests in your hands. You can only accomplish this feat if you learn how to be kind to yourself. Make a conscious decision to incorporate each of the strategies listed above into your own life.  Watch how much of a change it makes.

Organise Your Way To Good Health

The Most Basic Rules Of Health

  • Wake up early
  • Regular exercise at stated times. It should be moderate and given up as soon as one feels you feel you have moderately challenged yourself. Excess is to be avoided. It could cause harm.
  • Take steps to reduce stress in your life
  • Drink 2 litres of water a day.
  • Eat a healthy, balanced diet.

Obviously, there are other components. However, these are the most basic ones. If you struggle with functioning look at introducing these elements back into your life where possible.


There are some steps you can take that look after your physical health and your stress levels, if you are constantly stressing about your health or money!

  • Brush your teeth twice a day + floss + mouthwash –Dental Bills!
  • Walk where you can – Keeps functioning up, mood boosted and saves on gym bills because your getting exercise in completely free!
  • Exercise with a friend – perhaps share the gas money to a class, price of a personal trainer or just enjoy the benefits of their company on your mood.

Do You Treat Yourself Lovingly?


I often find myself mentally, beating myself up, for a lack of a better word. I am subconsciously telling myself all these things without even questioning them. If I’m always beating myself up in my own head, how can I expect to be happy?

I think a lot of women struggle with similar issues too. And men!

Our image of ourself and how we think other people perceive us is very much based on how we talk to and perceive ourselves.

Therefore, I think the journey to happiness really starts in our own head.

But how can we start the journey? Start trying to practice self love….


What Is Self-Love?

Sure it sounds really cliche. However, as we can see from above it could really help us. Change starts at home!

Self-love is defined as:

“regard for one’s own well-being and happiness.”

You don’t have to think you are the bomb, or that you are somehow amazing! That is so tricky for anyone to think about themselves.

Self-love is simply wanting the best for yourself and looking after yourself because you think you are worth that effort.

Once you get over that common misconception. Practicing self-love is a little bit easier.



Some Ideas To Practice Self-Love:

  • Exercise
  • Forgive yourself for your mistakes
  • Occasionally splurge on something for yourself
  • Meditate
  • Support your own dreams
  • Stand up for yourself
  • Take a bubble bath (I can’t just sit in the bath. I recommend relaxing spa music, candles, lights out, a mud pack and set yourself a time say 10 minutes, and you can build up as you get better at giving yourself some you time)
  • Remind yourself that someone’s opinion of you IS their opinion and not a fact.
  • Remind yourself that the things you automatically think about yourself are not necessarily fact! The things you think are most like biased. If you have a negative thinking pattern, you will think more negatively about yourself, than perhaps you are.
  • Rest if you need it!
  • Learn to accept yourself the way you are.

Kayln Nicholson – How To Adult 101!!

Hi guys,

I have recently started following Kayln Nicholson on Youtube. And I think she is fantastic! She has recently started doing a new series called ‘how to adult 101’. I think this is my favourite Youtube series to date!

The series covers tips, tricks and hacks to lead a strong, confident, better adult life. I think it is awesome. It covers some of the things people assume we can do everyday, but we perhaps end up feeling inadequate because we don’t actually kn0w or have learnt how to do these.

So I wanted to share this with you guys. Because this blog is all about helping women become more strong confident and empowered, I feel this fits really well into our theme.
